Wheelchair Shopping, after I had a stroke
Once again Amazon.com to the rescue. Since I had my stroke in 2005 it’s been a very slow process regaining the use of my right hand. Early on I bought myself a cheap wallet to just get by on. Now I am feeling better and stronger and can use my right hand more so I decided to get a new one. Naturally I couldn’t go shopping at the mall to find a new wallet so I went to Amazon.com. But quite frankly, I am enjoying going to Amazon more than going to the mall. They have quite a selection and the reviews help me to determine if I might like the item. I also have prime shipping so it doesn’t cost me to have it shipped, and also no state sales tax. So even if prime shipping doesn’t cover it I can see the freight costs and decide whether I want it or not.
I ordered my new wallet last week after thinking about it for a couple of days. I reviewed why I was thinking of a new wallet and whether this would be a good deal for me. That's another of the things I like about Amazon, I can think about it or I can go ahead and buy it.
Well, it just arrived and it is even better than I pictured in my mind.
Amazon.com has really helped me to be more independent. I used to be quite the shopper, always looking for the best deal. I would drive all over town trying to find the best deals on things that I wanted. Amazon has things from peanuts to bed sheets , electronics to furniture, anything you desire.
VOTE- Doesn’t matter who, just go out and use the right to VOTE!
Make your motions and cast your votes, but God has the final say.” Proverbs 16:33. I firmly believe in this verse. Every one of us has a choice to make so please get out and vote. VOTING is is a privilege that each one of us has, and we all should take it very seriously.
Now, I agree things are quite a mess. However our forefathers shed their blood so we could have the vote. So it is our responsibility to participate and to vote
Letting myself out of the box, changes after a stroke
Recently I realized that I had put God in a box. Even though I realized I could ‘nt do this I had sub- consciously done it anyway. So I determined ly set out to correct the situation. ha-ha-ha, please notice the big I…. once I understood that it was up to GOD to do this in me I began to make progress.
Now I began to realize that I myself was in this box. Example... I may meet someone who has jewelry all over themselves, nose, chin, and else where, and make a decision as to what they were like. Out of the box for me means listening to them first with an open mind and then deciding if I agree or not. In my 70 years of life I had put a lot of things in my box.
Life is so much more exciting now, and I look forward to my daily encounters with people here at the convalescent home.
Now I don't want you to think that I have arrived... because I'm still working on it. I must say I do feel happier , and I'm able to keep a smile on my face all day.
Making money when I was a teenager. ( the 1950′s)
The easiest job to find when I was in my teens was picking apricots and prunes. Of course these were the days of $.25 a gallon of gasoline! I was raised in the Santa Clara Valley in California, and acres and acres of fruit trees. Of course, apricot trees were the most popular. I had a friend whose grandfather owned an orchard of apricots. So I went to work picking apricots. My dad insisted that I do something with my summertime to help support my car [I was a lazy kid, and liked fooling around all summer ].
I would get up early in the morning and drive out to the orchard. It always smelled great, fresh and clean. The guys in charge of picking fruit would issue me my buckets and ladder and point me toward the tree I was supposed to start with. I became very well acquainted with apricots and believe me they didn't come in those plastic packages that you see today in the store. In this orchard they also dried cots so there was a distinct smell in the air. This was a hot and dusty job so I really appreciated water breaks and lunch.
As I look back on this time of working its helped me to realize that I gained a great deal of character. I'd worked hard for my money and I didn't want to waste it. This has carried over to today so I'm not real happy with the giant money bailout my government is doing.
